From my wife's XP machine, we can see my Mac. So far, so good.
Now, on the Mac, I created a New Person with my wife's name under the Shared Folders ... Users pane (from Sharing), thinking that she could use this user account to log in as. (She does not have a login on the Mac currently.)
The problem is when the network connection is finally made to the Mac form the XP machine, it will eventually get around to asking for the login to the Mac Machine. The only login that works is my login since I'm the real Mac user on that Mac. The "New Person" (my wife's name and password) I created in the Sharing applet for my wife does not work.
OK, so if we login as "me" (I am the only user account on the Mac), then she sees *all* the folders on the machine from the root down not just the temp and public folders that I shared.
So, my question is, how do you go about setting up an account on the Mac where a remote trusted network user, not necessarily one who has a real account on the mac (via Mac login) can only see certain folders.
As it is now, as long as they login as me, then they see everything anyway.
I'm therefore quite confused about how to administer network users so they can see just certain files, but still map a folder, via SMB, to the Mac like:
\\MacBookPro\temp
Reading "Switching to The Mac" doesn't really make this problem's solution clear that I see.
Thanks very much for help!!!
