Do you think I should take my friend up on this deal?

He wants my iPhone 3G(for free), if I give him $200 to get the new iPhone since he's renewing his contract in a week...so I won't have to pay $400 for an early upgrade.

Should I do it?

Wouldn't you make out more if you sold your 3G? If you have a 16GB 3G you can get $300+ for it if it's in good shape. $400 - $300 = $100. Whereas you're giving away your phone and paying $200. Sounds like a bad deal to me.

No. You can sell your iPhone 3G for more than $200 and put that money toward buying the 3G S for $399/$499 and end up spending less money in the long run.

I have an 8GB iPhone 3G and plus with them lowering the price of the 8gig, who is going to pay $200-$300 for my used phone?

While you won't have the cash what you will have is a contract-free 3G$ which means you can get the subsidized price of the next iPhone as your contract wont be extended.

And renew your contract for two more years? I would jump on that deal in a second. A contract less iphone 3gs for $200 ....
