Trying to inport video from a Sony camera via iPad USB camera kit

I'm trying to get video off of a Sony HD HandyCam onto an iPad. When I connect the camera to the iPad, it opens the Photo app and I see thumbnails of the video. When I import all, it imports only the thumbnail stills rather than the actual video.

Any direction is much appreciated!
