my house
so I was trying to install Mac OS X 10.3 on my iBook clamshell and the video I saw told me to erase the hard rive so I did but when it asked me what hard rive to put it on I clicked the hardrive and is came up with a warning saying I can't install it to this hardrive because a earlier version is not installed so now when I turn on my Mac it comes up with the flashing finder and question mark symbol if anyone can help me get Mac OS X 10.3 on to my laptop it would really hoelp.

It's an upgrade version so it requires 10.2 or earlier to already be installed. You'll need to either install an earlier version or get a non-upgrade disc.

My computer doesn’t have any operating system on it right now so would this work?

Do you know which specific model of iBook you have? It might be easier to track down a copy of the original restore discs.

OK, the restore discs for that one will be OS 9, or maybe even 8.6, so I'm leading you down the wrong path there.

The 10.2 discs you mentioned above should work (or a non-upgrade version of 10.3).

So os 9 should work?

I don't know whether the 10.3 upgrade will install over OS 9.

If you do want to try OS 9 then you'll probably need the grey restore discs that originally came with the system.
