ok so i have 9.2 installed as i just gotthe iphone 4.

my 3gs is the359.3 bootrom running 3.1.3 firmware

im trying to clear all data and ive rset the phone and erased all settings, but ive heard the best way to be sure is to go into DFU and reinstall 3.1.3

itunes 9.2 isnt allowing me to reinstall 3.1.3 to my 3gs

whats the best way to ensure all my data is off the phone and then use spirit jailbreak and then ultrasnow to unlock?

do i need to use a computer with a lower version of itunes?

will it let me shift restore and select the 3.1.3 ipsw without erroring out? i dont have the shsh blobs stored to cydia for this phone

There's nothing you can do in order to restore you will have to restore to the latest 4.0
And you wont be able to JB or unlock it then.
Or you can stay at 3.1.3 and use spirit to JB and ultrasnow thru cydia to unlock.
You can try manually deleting all your stuff from it like email accounts, apps, texts etc..
You can also use a package thru cydia called Erase Contacts.
That will delete all your contacts from the phone with 1 click.
Good luck.

What if I use a computer with lower iTunes version. Can I run spirit and then add the path for ultrasnow?

Seems like that would work

From what I understand I can't use spirit if I have 9.2 installed.

I reset and erased all data from the settings menu and then setup the phone as new, but I'm worried that data may still be available hidden on the drive.

It's still on 3.1.3

You didnt bother reading anything I put up to help you?
What you have in mind WILL NOT WORK.
If you do the erase all data and setting you will only be able to restore to official 4.0, it doesnt matter what version itunes you use.
Once you do that everything is delete along with the iphone OS.
You can use spirit on 3.1.3 that you're on now but you gotta get a version prior to 9.2

Ok, so I assume that by erasing all info from the settings menu that it's good enough for data removal.

Then I can use spirit on a computer that has a version of iTunes lower than 9.2. Then unlock through ultraslow on cydia?

Pretty much thats all you can do to be able to sell it JB and unlock.
Or restore to official 4.0 and sell it without beeing JB or unlocked.
No other options.
