If you mean you want an icon to appear on your Desktop for your hard drive, go to:
Finder > Preferences > General > Show these items on the desktop: > Hard disks

How to actually make an icon or just display it on the desktop? If you're trying to display it, Finder > Preferences > Show these items on the desktop: is probably what you're looking for.
