Hi there,

I realize some variation of this problem has been touched on but I couldn't find my issue exactly so I thought I would post here. I apologize in advance if it's redundant.

A few days ago my Macbook wouldn't start up. A folder would come up and a question mark would flash on and off.

I did a bit of research and found out that my hard drive was likely shot.

So I bought a new hard drive and tried starting from my Time Machine backup (Option O followed by selecting my backup drive to boot from). No dice. I ended up getting the same folder except it would stay on for 15 seconds and then disappear, turn back on, etc... So slightly different behaviour.

Now I'm not really sure what to do for next steps other than take the computer into my local shop and pay them to investigate the issue - which I'm hesitant to do since it's probably something I can fix myself if they can. If this sounds like a pain in the butt, I'm willing to take it in.

Final piece of info: I bought the machine in 2008 with Leopard. I've since upgraded to Snow Leopard and Lion, however I don't have the Lion disk. Would this affect the TM restore?

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
