Trying to restore mac OS X to factory

Hey everyone

I'm in the process of installing Mac OS X from the factory CD. This is the black macbook from 2007. I believe it's Mac OS X Leopard.

Everything goes smoothly until I go to "Select a Destination, Where do you want to install Mac OS X?" The screen is completely blank white underneath showing 0 options.

Just wondering, do you have an external drive around?

What happens if you connect the external, and THEN try to run the installer?

Can you see the presence of the external?
Can you install a copy of the OS to it?

Are you sure the Macbook's hard disk is in good condition? Verify the disk using Disk Utility after you start from the DVD (Utilities > Disk Utility)
