Hi,

I'm trying to sell my macbook and people are all asking me the serial number. Is it safe to give it to them ? Why do they want this ?

thanks

Hmm I'm trying to think why someone would need it, as well as what damage it could cause.

Assuming your computer is registered the serial number should be linked to your account, so I can't think what someone could do with it maliciously. Potentially there's a problem though.

Also can't think what someone would want with it, other than potentially checking if it's stolen.

I'd say use your best judgement, hopefully someone can provide a more comprehensive answer but I wouldn't give it out myself. There's possibly a way of spoofing it onto stolen machines?

Hm.

People are "all" asking you the serial number? Really? Has everyone who expressed an interest in this computer asked you to verify the serial number? Or, has only one person requested that you do so?

Curious.

not all, maybe 1/3 of people who has contacted me ask for it

so bottom line, there is nothing harmful that can happen if I give it to them ?
