My school's email uses hotmail as their provider, but instead of studentname.live.com it's studentname29@student.cccs.edu. Everytime I my login and password at Account setup, the pop3.live.com incoming mail server rejects my username/password. Same with the smtp.live.com outgoing mail server. Any way to correct this?

I was always under the impression that hotmail is not supported by apple mail or any mail client for that matter because of restrictions on using the incoming/outgoing mail servers of hotmail. You may need to check with the school IT personnel and ask them if its possible.

It does work, but the hotmail servers are pretty bad and will frequently stop working for no apparent reason. They will say your password was rejected at random times for no reason: just enter it again. Here are the correct settings, though:
*Full* username: username@student.cccs.edu
Type: POP3
Incoming server: pop3.live.com
Incoming server port 995 with SSL on
Outgoing server: smtp.live.com
Outgoing server port: 587 with TLS security on
Outgoing server requires authentication (enter same username and password).
