Trying to share a QuickTime file with itunes

Hi, I have a movie that I downloaded online and I played it and it worked fine in QuickTime. However when I shared it with iTunes the entire sharing process works and the entire export bar fills but it stops at "5 seconds remaining" this is really frustraiting as I want to share it to iTunes at put it on my iPod. what can I do to fix this?

Have you tried Handbrake and one of its iPod or Apple TV presets yet?

www.handbrake.fr, it works on Windows and Mac OS X, not on iOS. And why does "brake" often get confused with "break"?
