I have a cMP, 2009 4,1 upgraded to 5,1. Boot Camp Assistant says that it can't be used with this Mac. What might be lacking? I have enough hard drive space and it is fast enough 3.3 GHz. It has a Radeon RX580 - which I suspect may be the problem. Any thoughts or questions?

Of course Boot Camp Assistant would say that. Apple wants you to purchase newer Macs to install Windows 10.

A work around solution is install Windows 10 on a Windows native machine, then transfer the disk to cMP.

My wife has a MacBook Pro 8,3, early 2011, running High Sierra, which is stock except for the SSD drive. When I go to use Boot Camp Assistant with it, the process starts up and goes as it should.

Since that is an older machine and an older OS, my thinking is that is has something to do with the video card. The Radeon RX 580, which is not on the approved list.

I do have a PC running Windows 10, how do I do what you are suggesting? I would actually be happier with Windows 8.

I have also read that you can install Windows 7 with Bootcamp, then upgrade to Windows 10.
I don't even get far enough to make that choice. Boot Camp Assistant comes up and says: Boot Camp Assistant Cannot Be Used. This Mac does not support Boot Camp.

0. Get BootCamp 4 (created from BootCamp Assistant App when in Mac OS, or download from the Internet)
1. Get a free HDD/SSD
2. Put it into your PC.
3. Install Windows 10 to it. Remember to partition it as MBR, not GUIPT.
4. Transfer it to cMP
5. Boot the cMP into Mac OS. Open System Preference to see if you can select to boot from the new Windows HDD/SSD you have just transferred into cMP. If you can, reboot into Windows
6. Install BootCamp6. Get it from the Internet.
7. Open BootCamp4 folders to get the missing driver (Bluetooth and Sound)

BootCamp only automates the drivers installation process, and gives you the option to reboot into Mac OS HDD/SSD from within Windows, which is very helpful if your Graphic card does not display a boot picker screen.
