Trying to use mac to record video from hi-8

I bought this connector:http://www.amazon.com/E-SDS-Composi...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

and hooked it up to my mbp and the rca output on the video camera but nothing is working and I can't find it even recognized by my mac. You are supposed to just plug it in and record off quicktime but quicktime just makes a recording off the webcam. Any ideas?

If your camera is non-digital, you'll need to manually press "play" on the camera in order to start the feed to your MBP. Also, you might try using iMovie instead of Quicktime. Be sure to select the correct source in the menu for your import.

It is non-digital and I pressed play and this little blue light on the cable came on for a split second before turning off. I tried to import into iMovie but I didn't see anything to do with the camera or cable listed anywhere.
