I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro and it is starting to get pretty slow. Therefore I will install an SSD and increase the RAM hoping it will speed up my laptop. Installing Yosemite was a bad choice so far since it slowed the thing down to a very annoying crawl. I have decided that I really like the OS if I can get the platform to perform well enough to run it fast.

Therefore this new tread.
I am hoping to receive any tip or trick to speed up the general performance of my Macbook Pro.
Anything is welcome, general settings, good users practice, hardware tweeks, whatever you can come up with.
For example, what settings should I turn on/off to take pressure of the system.

It will be the last OS update I will do on this machine, it will be Yosemite until the end of it's life. I am planning to squeeze at least another five years out of this one.
