Hello.
I have oa feb 2011 MBP 2.o ghz quad core 4gb ram. I was currious what my options are to safely squeeze some more performance out of my machine are. I plan on upgrading ram to 8gb. Not sure if what ram to get and if there is a difference? I ve seen kindston brand on ebay for $60, ive also heard of users spending $200 on 8gb ram. What are the differences? ALSO can i use intel turbo boost on my machine?

thx

Turbo Boost is built into the CPU and will be handled by the OS and CPU. You have to do nothing.

RAM can be had for 40 USD via Newegg and others (Crucial, Corsair, OWC, MacSales) for 8 GB RAM, or 16 GB RAM can be had for 140 USD via those vendors mentioned just some words before.
Apple wants too much, they charge 200 USD for an 8 GB RAM upgrade upon purchase of the Mac.

sorry what I meant was intel desktop control center, not turbo boost.

Since the software is only available for Windows and desktop boards, the MBP has a notebook board, that software will not help you.

If you want to overclock or need a faster CPU for whatever purposes, you might need to buy another, faster computer, if the 2.0 GHz model does not suffice your computational needs with whatever you do.

?

are there any options to get more performance out of this processor?

----------

also how or where can i find out what my i7 over clocks to when turbo boost kicks in? thx

Maybe if you explain what you are using it for, and the performance increase you need..
