I have a Macbook Pro which I have connected to an external widescreen display (Samsung C49RG9).

I regularly (daily) connect and disconnect the MBP to the monitor.

Usually, I have to open the MBP lid, and then switch the display on separately.

Is there a way to switch the monitor on and off automatically as I open and close the lid, even if I have disconnected the macbook altogether and then reconnected it later?

Sounds like maybe your monitor is switching off after being in "sleep" for a certain period of time, perhaps. Could there be a setting buried in the settings of the display to stay in sleep mode instead? Power saver or something?

My displays - plug in laptop, tap a key on the external keyboard, everything wakes up.
