Updated to iOS 18 today. If I'm watching a video on Apple TV, I get a persistent notification on my lock screen to bring up the Apple TV remote. Once I tap it, it brings up the Apple TV controls.

I don't want this notification. How can I turn it off?

Somewhat related, if I do occasionally use the remote function twice a year, what's the fewest-taps way to "let go" of the Apple TV and control my iPhone's media instead?

There is a way as I disabled this on my iPhone but I can't for the life of me remember how I did it.

If you're using your iPhone. You still get a banner notification for keyboard input but if you're not using your iPhone, no notification and nothing on the lockscreen.

That's exactly what I'd like to do. It was perfect before.

Thanks @ant the ninja, this is how my settings on that page are setup.

Worked for me too!
Some help would be appreciated.

I have both my iPad and iPhone set to Never. It doesn’t ask if I want the Remote. It just always displays it! I often start my Apple TV from a Shortcut so I thought that might be the cause. Nope. I restarted the Apple TV. As soon as I play an app I get the Remote on my iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch.

I never use the Remote app. Why do we have all of these new features to customize the Lock Screen when at least for me the Remote is always on it? Can you hear my frustration? 🤭

From what I’ve learned:

You can temporarily dismiss the Remote Widget by:
Press the icon for the Apple TV on the right side of the widget
Select Control Other Speakers & TVs
Select the very top entry for your iPhone.

The widget will show up whenever I use a Shortcut that does a Wake for Apple TV.
I haven’t found any Shortcut action to dismiss or prevent the widget from appearing.

Restarting the Apple TV (as I tried in my above post) doesn’t help.
It’s as though once you use the Wake action in a Shortcut your device is tied to the Apple TV unless you manually dismiss the widget as I described or you restart your iPhone.

All of the suggestions to turn off Live Activities, Airplay, etc have not worked for me.

It looks like the widget is tied to the shortcut and doesn't seem like it can be avoided. I mostly use Siri to turn up my Apple TV and I don't get the widget on my devices.

Unfortunately, it looks like you'll need to stop using the shortcut and switch to using Siri or the actual remote. I do find using Siri very convenient.

I think you’re right. Now that I know how to dismiss the widget, it doesn’t bother me as much. Either way, if I have to turn the tv on myself or dismiss the widget, neither is really a problem. Like you suggested, I may just ask Siri
