Well, pretty much the title says it all - I'm wondering if I can turn off the auto-dimming display when I plug in my MBP. I still want this feature on because it improves battery life considerably.

There are different power profiles for plugged in and battery. Turn off auto dimming when it's plugged in.

Although for some reason this doesn't work for me so it might not be the solution.

Doesn't it auto-dim when unplugged to save battery life, rather than dimming when plugged-in?

The setting is under Apple > System Preferences > Energy Saver

I'm not sure I understand your question though - you want to turn it off but you still want it on??

Just get Caffeine and turn it on when you plug it in, and turn it off when you unplug.

why download and another app with probably a preference pane or menu bar when it can be just be handled by Energy Saver?

heres my Energy Saver options for Power Adapter and Battery. my display slightly dims on battery power and then dims even more before sleep. and when on the power adapter the screen doesnt dim at all.

I'm sorry, I guess I didn't make my question clear. I'm talking about the ambient light sensor feature where the display brightness adjusts based on the room's brightness. (System Preferences>Displays>Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes) I'd like for my MBP to auto-dim when on battery but be at full brightness when plugged in.

I dont think you can make the auto brightness features different for both profiles. but if you want to turn it off, you go to System Preferences>Displays then click on the tick box on the bottom of the page that says "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes"

Darn. That would be really nice.
