I should know the answer, but sorry, I don't.

My daughter is traveling with her iPhone to Canada. I don't want to pay any extra data charges while she is there. Can I turn off data on the phone?

I'm not looking to cancel the data plan, just eliminate her ability to use data (other than WiFi) while in Canada.

Thanks

There are options under settings to both turn off data, and to turn off roaming data. You may want to turn both off to be safe.

Thanks. I think the "cellular data" switch would probably work. Like i said, i should have known the answer, just one of those days.

this will only stop data, so be aware if your carrier charges for incoming texts while roaming, if they do they the airplane mode on, then re-enable wifi is the safer bet

That's the best way to disable data.

It wont disable voice calls or SMS though. As noted above, your carrier might charge for incoming SMS (which you can't avoid).

No, you change it to some garbage information so it cant even sign on and get data at all. They have a APN all set up for that on that site and explain it in the FAQ i linked.

Thanks all. I think Airplane mode then re-enabling WiFi will be the way to go

Original post talked about DATA, not phone calls.

So, if you go into airplane mode, you will not get phone calls, or text messages.

As said, there is a switch to turn off DATA ROAMING in the setup.
