I passed thru an airport recently and am now getting notifications for some Apple AirPods located in that airport that are not my own (I do not own any AirPods). I live far from that airport and will not return there in the forseeable future. Questions:

-Why would start receiving unwanted Find My notifications for such a device?

-How do I permanently turn off notifications for such a device, to which I neither have ownereship or physical access to the device.

I note that I have six (6) Apple devices that I do own in my Apple account, but the unknown Airpods do not show up in the list of my devices on my Apple account.

Strange. Usually you actively have to pair the AirPods to one of your devices. I guess it’s theoretically possible you sat next to someone just about to pair their new airpods to their device and your device picked them up instead. But it would require someone to confirm on your device.

But AirPods don’t appear under Settings > your Apple ID. Instead use the FindMy app and look under Devices. If you see a pair of AirPods that are not yours you can Remove item.

If you accidentaly happened to accept the pairing of a set of new airpods that are not yours, this would make the correct owner very happy!
