turn off iMac screen while connected to hdmi?

Is there a way to turn off my imac screen while it is connected through hdmi to my samsung led? It will not dim all the way off like my mbpr does....

Not possible. Apple makes a MacMini for that. In the past when the Mini's were not as fast as the iMacs, I had an iMac where I disconnected the internal display cable, so it could lay flat on its face with a NEC 30 inch display on top.

Try
Ctrl + Shift + Eject

although, im afraid it might kill the second output
