iPod turn off ipod?

I just got my first ipod through the back to school special (loving my first mac by the way). I turned my ipod on and I don't know how to turn it off- i'm looking through my manual and I could use some assistance

Just press PAUSE and it'll eventually turn itself off. Alternatively, hold PAUSE until it manually switches off.

Press and hold the Play/Pause button for a second or two until it goes off.

Just put it to sleep

You don't have to. Roll through the menu and "sleep" it. If it's inactive for any period of time it hibernates on it's own. You'll see a dark screen and a white apple when you try to "turn it on" again so don't freak...
