turn off location/gps except when needed...possible?

i was able to do it on my blackberry...such as if i need to 'find my phone'

There is a setting to use location based services on the phone which ties into a ton of apps on iOS. However, if you've lost your iPhone, it may be too late to turn the GPS services back on.
