I live in an area of no LTE for AT&T. Will I be saving battery if I turn it off? I still get the 'fake' 4G here though.

If you don't have LTE in your area, turn it off.
It will save your battery life by not having to search for LTE all the time.

Yeah, turn it off, as searching for LTE constantly uses battery.

But, every so often, you might want to turn it back on for a few minutes or so to check and see if they've lit it up in your area. Where I live, AT&T does not have LTE on the map, but they recently turned it on just a couple weeks ago, and it works. So, it makes sense to check now and then.

And FYI, battery life is fine with LTE locked in and working.

I'm in the same boat. I leave my LTE off. :(

However, although I agree with you that AT&T's "4G" is a bit misleading, recently I've been surprised.. been pulling 10-11mb down and 1-2mb up. Not bad for non LTE! :)
