Hi All--

Am trying to disable the startup chime on my recently resurrected mid 2012 MacBook Pro running Catalina. Have tried various terminal commands without success. I have read that different Macs require different terminal commands depending on the model.

Am sure someone has successfully disabled just the start up chime on their mid-2012 MBP--what is the secret?

Thank you in advance!

Was able to finally disable the startup chime on my mid 2012 MBP with Catalina. Here is how one does it-open the Applications folder, then open the Utilities folder, launch the Terminal application, then enter "sudo nvram StartupMute=%01" (remove parentheses) in the terminal, and hit return. You will get no confirmation, exit terminal and the next time you start up your MBP, no chime!

If you want to enable the chime after deactivating it, use the command "sudo nvram StartupMute=%00" in terminal.
