Has anyone here converted an old macbook into a NAS of sorts?

I have a 2011 13" macbook pro that I was just going to try to sell for $50-$100, but though maybe it would make sense to simply use it in clamshell mode as a lightweight NAS running some kind of software.

Main concern is that it's quite old and it runs SUPER hot, let alone in clamshell mode. I could take it apart to clean it / reapply thermal paste but always worried about breaking something when doing so.

I suppose if you feel up to the task, you can remove the display entirely and run it in headless, plugging it into a monitor when you need to. The MBP should output by default to the monitor as the primary display and it would get plenty of ventilation as well.
