Hi Guys,

I'm wanting to use the iCloud feature "Find my iMac" but it seems to be greyed out and says "Recovery Partition Required".

What's this for?

Some background info - my iMac is currently booted off an external SSD and I use the internal HDD as my storage.

The recovery partition is a hidden 650MB partition on the boot drive you can use for various troubleshooting tasks and also to reinstall the OS. And, like that error message mentions, its presence is required to use Find my Mac.

It sounds like maybe however you installed the OS, it did not create a recovery partition like it normally would.

Would I be able to create one retrospectively?

----------

I would probably want one on both my external SSD & internal drive incase the mac is stolen and the SSD is left behind for whatever reason.

A full installer run over the top of your existing installation should do it. Make a backup first.

Carbon copy cloner will also do it.
