I usually open my MacBook first then detach the external display.

Oh, no sorry. Here's a better description of my question. I have an external monitor connected. I shut the macbook when I was leaving to put it to sleep, but went into clamshell mode because I accidentally hit the mouse. So my question is. Its in clamshell mode right now, I opened the screen but its still in clamshell mode. I want to turn the macbook screen back on without restarting the computer, because I'm downloading some stuff that I don't want to stop. Is there a way?

EDIT: haha you beat me to it, ok thanks.

That might require some Mini-DVI adapter antics if you happen to have one. You might be able to convince it to display on an external or the onboard again when it detects the new display.

If your external monitor is still connected you can go to system preferences>displays and click detect displays to have your main display come back on.
