Turning 2 partitions into 1

Ok how do I do this? I have my main partition which osx is installed on and a blank 20gig partition I dont need anymore. How can I merge the blank partition back into the main partition without having to format the computer? Can this be done????

Assuming that the 20g partition is empty, can you not just delete the 20g partition using Disk Utility and then re size the main partition to maximum?

Disk Utility>resize partition should merge them for you assuming your extra partition is empty.
