My laptop starts getting really hot, especially under my hands. Is there a way to get OS X or something to turn the fan on when the laptop is at a lower temperature?

hells yeah! thanks dude. But now it says that it can't load fan control. how do I access it? And it says stuff about macbooks. I have an ibook G4
ummm not sure. i just test-installed it on my iMac and it worked. Try re-booting? If not check you model is supported. it should say somewhere on their website.

The GUI is not free so here is the terminal app.
just put it in ~/bin and type g4fancontrol --set (temp you want in ºC) in terminal.
EDIT: you can't even download the command line version anymore.

thanks dude, I think this does the job. I found .5 for free, but the new GUI version, as you said is pay for, which is silly.
