Is there a way to turn off face id camera system. All my options related to face id are set to ''off'', but i can still see LEDs flashing (with the help of a camera, since this is IR). I wonder why is it so. The only other option that uses this face id system is the animoji in the messages. And that is not being used at all. In fact i removed that from the keyboards. Perhaps this has been asked before. But is there a way to turn off this face id camera system? If not , why so? Please do not reply in terms of safety, how IR is completely safe. It could be safe. That is not the point. If we are paying 1500 dollars for an iphone like 13 pro max, and if there is an option to turn face id off in the software itself, then it should be off. Period. It looks like turning off face id, literally applies to that face id lock. The camera system still keeps working in the background. Why my face is being bombarded by a ray of light, when i am not even using those features. I don't care how safe that light is. It could potentially save battery too. This is not a rocket science, if there is an off button, then it should be off. Any thoughts please ? I also plan to call apple helpline to ask about this. So far looking into the forums, i realized 99 % of the time, this discussion ends up in the IR safety debate and the actual question gets ignored.

You cannot do more than what you have already done. If that answer isn’t suitable, you need to talk with Apple directly, as they would be the ones to have the answers why, not that they will give you that informatIon.

If you feel so strongly, you should consider a different phone.

Well the obvious that you said you did:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Locate Face ID & Passcode and then enter your passcode when prompted.
  3. You now need to toggle the switches under the Use Face ID For section; turn off each item to completely disable Face ID.

You can disable Animoji stickers from appearing in your emoji keyboard through the Settings app. To disable the Animoji stickers, tap the “Memoji Stickers” slider at the bottom of the Keyboard settings found in Settings > General > Keyboard.

I guess that does not help but it’s all I got.

Edit - put something over the specific cameras you want to disable tape or paint - that should do it!

That flashing IR light is the Flood Illuminator and it can’t be disabled with a toggle in settings. You’d have to put a little sticker over its lens to prevent it from beaming out.
It has existed on all iPhones at least from the iPhone X
