Is there some program to turn off (not lower the rpm) my iMac's fan? I am detecting some buzzing sound, and I want to isolate the issue (I think it's the HDD, but just to be sure). I'll just turn it off for like 5 seconds so it should not overheat.
I don't think you can lower the fan speeds, let alone stop them completely. You could open the iMac and unplug them one by one to troubleshoot, but taking the iMac to Apple is a better option.

As Hellhammer suggests, take it back....Get Apple to look at it, I used to crack open and build PC stuff, HH is well known for his get in the box hands on approach.
I have over 25 years in the PC business, and I would be petrified to open any of my mac stuff.
Mind you, the more I learn, I guess I should have taken my ipad1 apart as a starter, but I passed it on.
Applecae for life on all my products sort of makes it a no brainer for me
