I have a 500GB MyBook external USB hard drive that is plugged into my Airport Extreme Base Station with Gigabit Ethernet as a network drive.

So all on one desk I have a cable modem, my AEBS, and the MyBook, all of which throw off quite a bit of heat. I can't turn off the AEBS or the modem, but I should be able to turn off the MyBook.

Normally I would drag it into the Trash on the MacBook, but that doesn't turn it off... and just pressing the button doesn't either.

Anyone have any ideas on the subject?

For me, if I dismount my AirPort Disk-connected MyBook from all computers, it shuts itself off after about 30 seconds.

To force the MyBook to turn off, you have to hold the power button in for about 15 seconds.

Yeah... I'm a jackass... if I had read the manual carefully I would have seen that you have to hold the button down... thanks for your help and sorry for posting such a stupid question.
