I have over 300TB of RAID storage attached to my Mac Studio over multiple RAID enclosures. Half of the enclosures are "near line storage" (aka replication of the primary storage). I would like to turn off the "near line enclosures" when they are not in use to save power and keep the storage area cooler.
I use a software and agent (ChronoSYnc and ChronoAgent) to copy daily changes. This is scheduled at a specific time of the day.

I thought of adding a light switch timer to shutdown the storage. Feels that it might not be good for the storage to have daily hard shutdowns.
Another solution, would be to send a signal from the Mac Studio to disconnect the RAID storage and then do a hard shutdown.

Looking for a solution. Thanks in advance for the input.

You can tell mac OS to leave specific volumes unmounted by default (I understand that you want to turn off the disks completely but this is the best solution I can offer).
Then tell Chronosync to mount the volume before backing up and unmount it when the backup is done.
This is how I handle my backup volumes.
