Why not use logmein or gotomypc, that's what I use to remote into my work pc.

Try TeamViewer. It's free and you can even control your computers from your iDevices.

You can install Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac and use from there Remote Desktop Connection. I am using it to access my pc from my mac and it is very good. Don't forget to set an administrator account with a password on your pc, unless the remote can't occur.

I'll assume there is a router on the Vista side. You need to port forward 3389 to the LAN address of the Vista Machine.

I use TeamViewer, which works with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Ubuntu, iPhone, iPad, etc. It's very secure and quite simple to set up and use.... and it's free for personal use.
