Here's something to consider now that the iPhone is on two major carriers in the USA. If you are in an existing contract with AT&T, it may be less expensive to simply cancel your contract and buy the new iPhone model on an annual basis with Verizon at the fully subsidized price - rather than remain on AT&T and pay the full MSPR of the new AT&T iPhone.

I'm thinking this will result in VZW/ATT offering 1 year subsidies, or more competitive subsidies as least, as the iPhone competition heats up this summer, because AT&T is already losing ground quickly to VZW granted they've only had the phone for a fraction of a year.

BEFORE The VZW announcement, AT&T was offering "premature" 2 year upgrades to certain lines, so hopefully we see more of this!

Thoughts?

Who pays full MSRP for the iPhone with AT&T? Unless you lose your phone right away there is no reason to. Most AT&T customers at a minmum should be eligible for a discounted upgrade at a higher price, which makes the phone $399/$499. This is still at least $200 of the full price.

Why not just get a one year contract for $100 more on the new contract price?
