Apple appears to be expanding availability of its TV app ahead of today's keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference, with users in the U.K. and Australia reporting seeing the app on their devices for the first time.
Apple has until now limited the TV app to the U.S. App Store, but with users in other countries seeing the Videos app being replaced with the TV app when updating their iPhones and iPads, there's a high likelihood the expansion is linked to impending announcements in Apple's keynote later today.
Originally launched in October, the TV app is a "unified TV experience" that works in sync across Apple TV and iOS devices, offering a convenient hub for accessing and discovering TV shows and movies. The app works by aggregating viewable media from iTunes and any third-party apps installed on a device, allowing users to queue content for later viewing in the respective app.
Apple is expected to unveil iOS 11 at today's WWDC keynote, although many of its features remain a mystery. It's possible the TV app could have a prominent role in the company's launch of original TV content, but a new version of the Music app is also expected that better showcases video, in time for upcoming Apple Music TV shows like Carpool Karaoke.
