My TCL 3-series 55" Roku TV died. Looking for something 65" in the $500-$750 range. Any suggestions? I'm interested in Hisense models but feel like Samsung is the safer way to go. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Just go to CostCo, or Amazon, or similar store and choose your poison :)

Any of the major brands is fine. Just choose the features you want and use it for five to 12 years before you buy a new one. Plug the TV into a surge-suppressing outlet or extension cord.

I prefer to stick with LG or Samsung. Since they actually manufacture panels and have decent OS support. LG uses webos Samsung uses Tizen OS. Each has a good selection of apps. Webos offers decent universal search, Google Assistant and Alexa integration.

Sony or Samsung. I hear LG is pretty good too. Sony tends to be more expensive though.

I upgraded my 55” Samsung to a new 55” 4K model. Great TV, my only gripe was VESA mounting holes were totally different. Same make, same size! Had to drill and modify my wall bracket which has a swing arm .

Never had any issues with my Samsung TVs, but like Rafterman, I do enjoy the Bravia series of Sony TVs

My main TV is a Sony 65 inch 4K X950G with HDR. It also supports Airplay and Chromecast directly. It integrates nicely with my Sony STR-1080DN 7.2 Stereo system.

I have been using Visio tv sets lately with great success. I have a 75" 4k. Chromecast built in with Airplay. Good price, and replaceable every 5 years.

I'm tired of spending $1k+ and only getting a slightly better picture. Whatever you get, search avsforum for the best calibration settings and tweak for your room. This can make an inexpensive tv very enjoyable.

Yeah, theere are two schools of thought. Buy an expensive super-TV and have it for 10+ years, or go less expensive and upgrade more often. The latter allows for you to get the latest new features more often. I paid $1,800 for the Sony X950G. A little on the higher end, but it will still be choice for a while, until 8K becomes a thing.

I can't remember the last time I bought a tv that lasted as my main tv for 10+ years. I mean, wifi technology has more than tripled it's speed since, more apps are available, everything has switched to streaming. 10 years ago, most tvs weren't even smart, 3D was more important than smart features, and now it's hard to find 3D.

Another thing, the memory included (allocated for streaming) has changed even with tvs within the last couple years.

There is no way I'll get locked into tech for 10 years, it's moving way too fast.

I remember my buddy spent $3k+ on a Samsung DLP almost 20 years ago, it died in 6 years, my parents and brother also spent big money on their Samsungs, all died within 5-6 years. I still have my Mitsubishi DLP from then that was half the price, and it still works (I simply swap the lamps when needed), although the Samsung chip inside was replaced with an updated Texas Instruments chip.

My main tv gets replaced every 5 or so years, and they move down the line (den tv moves to living room, living room moves to master bedroom, master bedroom moves to extra bedrooms...)

Mine that died was from 2018. I also bought a 4-series last year and that one is still kicking and going strong.
That's about how long our Sharp lasted. The Toshiba in the bedroom is still going after around five years
