So, after my last thread, I just bought the new official apple component cable and dock rather than trying to figure out if I could get my old dock working with a new cable or not.

Unfortunately, now, the tv-out doesn't seem to be working at all! I get sound, but the picture is just static. Doesn't seem to matter what I change, switching to the old composite cord, taking it out of the dock and using the component cord alone, switching from PAL to NSTC, so on. Video out is enabled, my tv supports component and everything, but no picture.

Is my ipod broken? :p What else could I try to make this work?

I am a bit vague as to what you are trying here. You know that the new gen iPods have a different video out from the old ones I presume and that the old cords are not compatible with the new units? And by "iPod Classic" do you mean the new iPod of that name, or just any "old" iPod?

AFAIK all you should need, if it's a genuine iPod classic, is the new cable (iPod to component/composite), and to go into the iPod software and throw the software switch for video out.

I've done all of this.

It's an 6th-gen 80 GB ipod classic, and I just bought brand new component cords and a universal dock off of Apple.com. Tv-out is enabled through the menu. I'm still just getting sound and not any picture beyond the weird horizontal static that I'm getting. It's not even color static, it's black and white.

I know the problem isn't with my TV component-in ports, because that's how I hook up my xbox 360 and that works just fine. Also, the brand-new universal dock plus the old composite cords, which I was told should work, doesn't.

Update

Okay, so, I tried it on every single tv in the house, and it ONLY worked on the hi-def tv, which is a huge load of crap in its own right. I was under the impression that it would work fine with any TV that supports component, which is really making me angry.

HOWEVER, it's not even working properly there! The hue is COMPLETELY off. I get absolutely NO yellow, which throws off all the colors. I've fiddled with the TV settings, but the settings are fine on DVDs and TV. The videos and photos on my ipod screen look right, but as soon as I hook it up to the TV, the colors go completely wrong.

Did I get a defective cord? Every plug is pushed all the way in. There isn't anything I could possibly do differently to get a different outcome.

This is a long shot, but it worked for me. Plug the Yellow plug into the White port on your TV, the Red plug into the Yellow port, and the White plug into the Red port. For some reason that was the only way I could get it working.

It's a component cable, so there is no yellow plug. There's red, blue, green plugs and then a red and white set of audio plugs separate from those.

Right, compnent, I was thinking of composite. Sorry, I can't help you then.

I'm having the same exact problem...

I plug my DVD player component inputs into the TV, it works. I plug the iPod Classic component inputs and I get sound and black & white swirly barely distinguishable images.... and yes, I have triple checked that the cords are correct, and tried changing them up, then there is no image...
