iPod touch TV Out on 4.0 doesn't work?

I don't know if anybody has asked this before - but for some reason the TV out has abruptly stopped working after upgrading to 4.0.

I am using an Apple cable to connect to the TV (although its 3 years old). I'm encountering the same issue on an iPad that is also running 4.0.

Does anybody know why this is?!
