I have a vizio hdtv and i have hooked up the video with a hdmi cable adapted to the mini display port and that is working fine but i can not send sound through it or idk how to. So i bought a optical toslink to mini toslink cable to send audio form the laptop to the tv but the audio still doesn't work. The laptop says that it automatically recognizes it as a digital output. Yea i really dont know how to fix this can anyone help me out?

Your TV probably only have analog stereo input, the toslink is almost certainly for digital OUT.

If the tv only accepts analog inputs then why would they put a digital input like toslink on it?

If your TV has a built in DVB-T or DVB-C reveiver that toslink connector is almost certainly a digital OUTPUT for sending surround sound to a home theater receiver or similar.

Most TVs only have crappy stereo speakers anyway, so a digital sound input would be almost useless.
