Is it possible to use an iMac as a TV screen. Intention is to run a HDMI cable from SkyTV box to it (via a splitter as this would be a bedroom TV). I would want to avoid having a TV and a monitor in the same room.

If it's possible how could I get a magic eye to work to turn the TV over from that room?

According to this discussion (from 2012) the answer is a Slingbox or Elgato box.

Most other suggestions I've seen include going through a streaming service like Hulu. The downside of that is not all the channels are available. I have not seen a way to do a straight hookup of an iMac to your television service provider like Verizon FiOS or Cablevision.

Agreed with the Elgato.

Get yourself one HD HomeRun unit and enjoy HighDef television on your LAN. Install EyeTV software on your iMac and relax.

. . . . . . and yeah, you are only going to net highdef channels, hence the name of the device, HD HomeRun.
