hi
i am looking for a tv tuner for the latest ti powerbook
all i want to do is watch tv and record the odd program on it.
any recommendations. i have heard usb ones are not great so is there a pcmcia or firewire device i can get
thanks

Not portable, but you can get a Firewire Formac DV/TV or a Dazzle DV Bridge. I've had trouble with my bridge, but my Formac works quite well. One thing though about Formac, their software may cause problems with the iSight, so you need to disable it before using the iSight.

Check out Hauppauge,
http://www.hauppauge.com/
(Formerly Eskape)
They have several models, A/V, Coax, fm, etc.

Their Products are known as MyTV
If you don't have a Mic input or a Line-in on your computer you also have to get a Griffin iMic, also available on their website.

What is wrong with the USB versions? I was thinking about an EyeTV for my Ti someday.....

USB is slower and lower quality than firewire. But the USB models are cheap, around $200. The Formac with TV tuner is about $400. The Dazzle is the cheapest FW one, but it doesn't have a tuner, and seems to have issues. I have yet to see a good review for it.
