Twelve South today launched a new accessory called the "ColorKit for MacBook," which is a solid color wrap for the top, bottom, and inside of the 13-inch MacBook Pro. When applied, ColorKit changes the shade of the MacBook to Aqua, Coral, Black, Forest Green, or Deep Rose.

ColorKit also includes a cover for the MacBook Pro's keyboard, so that your keys will match the color of the outside of the notebook. The accessory leaves cutouts for the MacBook Pro's speakers, as well as the Thunderbolt 3 ports and headphone jack.

Twelve South said that ColorKit uses a lightweight adhesive that holds the wrap in place, and leaves no residue when removed. This means that if you don't get the application exactly right, you can peel them off and reposition. The accessory is also described as protecting your MacBook Pro from scratches and discoloration.

ColorKit is available for the 13-inch MacBook Pro for $29.99 on Twelve South's website.

A wrap in the design/pattern of the original iBook G3 (clamshell) might be kind of neat.

Offer it in the original Tangerine, Blueberry, Graphite, Indigo and Key Lime colors.

Call it "ShellKit"

Seems like they’d be better off targeting the Air but what do I know lol. At least the price is right 🤷‍♂️
This; seems meant for the casual user (ie. more likely to buy an Air). Now that the apples on MacBooks don’t glow I’m…interested to see what these look like in the wild, maybe they’ll provide an interesting contrast.

I will say the cutouts for the speakers look really, intensely weird.

What I’d like would be things like this for the iPad Pro smart/magic keyboard. The outside of my folio Keyboard looks naff now - all wrinkly/bubbly. It reflects poorly on a case when I’m saying I’d like a case for the case, but that’s where we are!

Nice that they brought back the teal and orange of the iBook clamshell. Nostalgia.

I'm all for people customizing their own devices how they want, so more power to them!

That said, I can't imagine trying to get these wraps on the computer. I can barely align the stickers with perfect accuracy on my kids legos.

Related: I miss the glowing  on the back of the MacBooks/Pros/Airs. The vinyl stickers that people made to utilize the light were clever.

I’m all for using skins/wraps on MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, but when a company only offers a few select (questionable by my taste) colors, they’re missing the real opportunity. I mean, with how simple it is to produce (using either a laser cutter or a plotter cutter), they could be offering a far greater selection. Like how about just a clear wrap? I’m sure there are plenty of people who would like to protect their MacBook (Pro 13”, 15”, 16” or Air) but would never be ok with some color. They could even offer gold, space gray and silver, for those people that want to make their device look like a different stock color. They could also do variations of sheen, so people could get super high gloss black or red.

I also wonder why they’re not offering a trackpad wrap? I have to believe that the PVC / vinyl does not negatively effect touch input on the trackpad. When I was producing my custom super-thin real wood wraps (0.010” or .25mm), even it worked on top of the trackpad.

I agree, its cool that these exist, but man those colors are so ugly with the cutouts and bezel. To actually look good, they need to be desaturated a large amount and better match the value of the space gray or silver.

With anything that covers the shell of the device, it must impact heat dissipation, right? I wonder the same about iPhone and iPad cases. You avoid scratches on the outside while baking your GPU on the inside.

Is there any significant difference from what dBrand has been offering for years now? Or is it pretty much the same thing, just produced by a different company?

Perhaps but I think the difference is so small that you'll have a hard time measuring it. Once, I tested one of those laptop stands with a built-in fan. I ran a benchmark that pegged the CPU, and monitored one of the internal temperature sensors (CPU proximity). I measured it with the laptop on the stand, and off the stand. No difference, not even 1 degree Celsius. I suspect that heat dissipates overwhelmingly through the chassis (fan) outlets.

It’s really too bad they can’t do the trackpad as well - the difference is a bit jarring.

It should work; I've wrapped my (standalone) Magic Trackpad. It works totally fine with the wrap. I don't really understand why they didn't include it. Perhaps applying was too difficult.
