Twitter auto-refresh

I've been using twitter for iPhone for a couple of days and I can't seem to figure out why it won't auto-refresh. What I mean is on Android twitter would poll their service and notify me that I have new, unread tweets.

On the iPhone I have to check for myself everytime if I have new tweets. Is this normal, and if so is there an app that will auto-refresh and notify me of new tweets?

Do you mean tweets that you're mentioned in, or just tweets by anyone you follow? If you're looking for just tweets by people you're following, I don't think Twitter offers that because then you're inbox would be receiving 500 tweets by the hour. I know for sure if you're mentioned you will receive a notification. Also go into settings and see if Alerts is turned on for the Twitter app.
