Is it possible to get twitter badge app notifications for new tweets on the Iphone? Or is it only from DM's and retweets etc?

Also there is this very annoying thing in the Twitter app for Iphone. I get notifications of who is following my followers etc every time I refresh. Any way of turning this off? Can't seem to find it.
