Twitter for Mac received its last major update in December 2013 in the form of a revamped look with some new features, and the app has finally received another update bringing support for several additional photo features. Among them is the ability to post and view up to four photos in a single Tweet, a feature rolled out for the service in general some six months ago.
What's New in Version 3.1

This update brings new photo features to Twitter for Mac.
- View and post Tweets with as many as four photos (click each image preview to view the full photo)
- Share photos privately in Messages
- More performance improvements and bug fixes

All very well and good, but do Twitter OSX notifications still link to your browser instead of the app? It's useless until that changes.

(NB I haven't used the app in months (for this reason) and don't have my MBP with me to check, so apologies if this has already been implemented).

Yeah that's pretty annoying. I disabled the OSX twitter notification and enabled Twitter for mac's only.

Use this daily, split the 27" iMac screen with this by the side.
Glad to have it updated. Wish it would auto update, instead of me having to scroll up though. My feed isn't that full.

Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that Twitter supports transmission of rich media while still restraining text to a tiny 160 characters? To me that's how stubborn old guys block progress, when someone asks them "Why?", they respond with "Because that's how we've always done it." Is 256-320 characters really too much to ask for in 2014?

We'd love to, but Apple won't let us.

Whatever happened to the MacRumors app? It seems like its been mentioned a few times, and often it's included in pictures of mockups of iOS devices commissioned by MacRumors, but it still isn't available on the App Store yet.

That's just an icon. We've discussed ideas for an app, but to be honest we're hesitant to invest money, time, and effort into one after all of the problems with the AppShopper and TouchArcade apps.

Rule 2.25

Apps that display Apps other than your own for purchase or promotion in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store will be rejected

This new update for the official Twitter for mac is a total disaster. Buggy and slooooow.

Going back to Osfoora (which also need an update pronto)

They've also slightly adjusted the colour of the links and @ mentions. The blue is now the same blue that will be used in Yosemite, a slightly brighter blue.

I'm assuming that it is coded in such a way that when Yosemite launches the top bar will change somehow? Or maybe I'm being too optimistic, and we'll actually have to wait for 9 months for another update that will just add a new Yosemite design.

It's disappointing that the new version still doesn't support animated GIFs, so if someone posts one, it will only show a link and if you click the link it shows the text of the tweet again. So if you want to see it you need to copy the link to the tweet and paste it into your web browser.

Considering Twitter only updates it 1-2 times a year it might sadly be a long wait until this is fixed.

The whole purpose is to keep it short. Why would they change that?

Or Tweetbot, which is infinitely better than any of the crap Twitter themselves put out.

Definitely worth the $20. Same for the iOS app.

For one thing, when Twitter was conceived, they didn't know #hashtags, @person references, and links to images, movies, or web pages would be used so heavily. Those things take up a large portion of tweets today, count against the character limit, and leave very little room for the actual message, also leading to the frequent language-mangling needed to fit everything in one tweet.

The best thing would be to keep the character count the same, but don't count @names as part of that. Hash tags should still count, though, or people will go nuts with it. #ImOutOfCharactersSoIllFinishHere. Like that. lol.

Tweetbot for Mac may be better but many of the bugs i see in the current release were present in the alpha 2 years ago.
