Twitter is actively exploring the possibility of bringing a rumored "Undo Send" feature to the social media platform, if a newly unearthed animation is anything to go by.

Serial app de-coder Jane Wong discovered the feature animation, which adds a new "Undo" button to the usual dialog that confirms a tweet has been sent.

The Undo button has a long oblong shape, which allows it to also function as a progress bar, showing the user how much time they have to act before the tweet is actually posted.

As noted by The Verge, the feature bears similarities to Gmail's last-chance option for preventing emails from being delivered after the user has clicked "Send."

Twitter's "Undo" tweet option is likely to be the closest it will come to allowing users to edit tweets – a feature long-requested but which has never come to pass.

Assuming "Undo Send" does eventually become a thing, presumably it will be an optional function so that live microbloggers and other users who post time-sensitive tweets aren't subject to an additional delay because of it.

Last month, Twitter announced new features coming to the platform for content creators, including a "Super Follow" feature that will let users charge followers for access to exclusive content.

Bloomberg, which first reported on the new features, also said that Twitter was exploring the possibility of introducing paid subscriptions to reduce its dependence on advertising to generate revenue. "Undo Send" was floated as one of several advanced features that could be included in the subscriptions.

Jane Manchun Wong regularly flags potential new features coming to high-profile apps and services. Last year the reverse engineering expert was first to tip that Twitter was working on a new verification system and that the company had at one time tested Emoji reactions to tweets.

In the current political climate I don't think there should be anything like the edit or undo buttons anywhere on any social media.

I get calls from these kinds of people all the time. “How do I recall an email?!?!”

Stop, think about what you’re typing, proof read your thoughts on artisan funnel cake, DIY shiplap, or rapper Lil’ TayTay, and then if you’re mad, wait a little while.

Also if it’s political in nature, delete your account.

E-D-I-T button would be waaaaaay better...
No. Would be terrible. If they ever did implement one hopefully it would only be available for a short period of time after a tweet was sent (just long enough to correct a spelling error for example). Or the original tweet would remain and you would see what was edited underneath it.

I agree. I even think the window for being able to delete a tweet should be short so it can’t be abused by politicians or journalists going back and deleting controversial things they said in the past.

Limiting the rules for editing would be a far better discussion than whether to have an edit button or not.

Easy enough to time stamp the edit as well.

Came here to post snark, but I see other posters have already achieved perfection on that front!

Edit is terrible, this delay a tweet so you see how it'll be posted should have been the original idea from the beginning. Most common things is you can undo the post if you caught a misspell or have the second thought.

If I were Jack, I can't ever imagine a plausible scenario I'd ever make edit possible. Can you imagine making some bait tweets and people mass liking and then doing a sike edit to trap people memes.

Convenient for all the celebs and politicians who say they "misspoke" and desperately run damage control with fake apologies.

Oh, how many ppl wish there had been an "undo" button. So many careers/lives utterly ruined bc of a single careless tweet. Why I will never ever use Twitter.

I go back and forth on this. On the one hand, your "Edit" button is actually "delete tweet" and then repost it.

On the other hand, that can really mess up the threading when you don't spot the typo until the next day, when an actual edit button would be nice.

Edit with version history. Scroll the mouse wheel to watch the idiocy unfold like a flower going supernova.

People can more likely control stuff before it goes out. This is just a marketing gimmick because "no one else has it, now they all want it"

Twitter still exists? Their top priority should be an "undo ban user" feature.

At least they are sensible in some areas. If you give more "undo" actions, they will only convince more people to make mistakes.
