Twitter today announced that it is rolling out a new feature called Unmentioning, which is designed to allow Twitter users to remove themselves from conversations they do not want to participate in or be notified about.

Twitter-Feature.jpg

Twitter users who have been @mentioned in a conversation can now go to their Mentions tab and select the "Leave this conversation" option from any conversation they've been mentioned in, or select the three dots in the top corner of any tweet with a mention. Leaving a conversation will untag their username, stop all future mentions, and put a stop to notifications.

Those who use the unmention feature will have their username untagged from the original tweet and replies, and people will not be able to mention their username again in the conversation.

Twitter says that no one will receive notifications when someone leaves a conversation, but usernames will be displayed differently. Once a conversation is left, there is no way to rejoin or undo the unmention action.

Unmentioning is available in the latest version of the Twitter app for iOS devices, and it is rolling out to all Twitter users starting today.

well, makes sense they want to untag themselves from elon's s**tposting about the takeover deal

If he could just stop tweeting altogether for five **cking minutes, that would be a start.

I also don't get why anyone ever bought the idea that he's working 80+ hours a week. His Twitter timeline is where spends at least half of every single day.

There's no way you're letting your attention get sucked into brainless memes and social media chaos every 20 minutes and also getting anything done. No way.

Then again, our culture is so vapid right now that he's literally moving the market whenever he posts the right thing to trigger people. So it's probably me being ignorant for not knowing his brain farts are his work.

I like this. I only use Twitter for my company. While I get that all interactions for a company's social could be considered good by some, I disagree. There are some interactions I wish for my company to not be involved in.

This is a very welcome feature.. the amount of times someone will be carrying on an entire conversation without even noticing you're tagged is silly atm.. being able to just leave the "room" without having to ask them not to do it will help quite a bit. :)

The worst part of Twitter is getting a notification and see a comment and have no idea what it's in reference to. They don't give a way to see the thread the comment is attached to either.
twitter should make comments automatically quote the comment it's replying to

That’s a good idea and I wonder why it takes Twitter so long to implement new features like this

For now you can always mute any conversation

As someone who never uses Twitter, I’m genuinely shocked this wasn’t already possible.

“Things That Should Have Been From Day One” for $500 please.

It still gets me that there is no Edit button on Twitter. Internet chat and forums figured this out back in the 90’s and here it’s 2022.

He should continue with the purchase than shut down Twitter and repurpose all the servers for Tesla manufacturing sites. Then sell all the Twitter IP to highest bidder.
Why on earth would he do that? His reason for buying it was to have a place to say whatever he wants with no chance of anyone interfering with his ability to spew harmful misinformation (that's largely what Twitter takes down - if he doesn't want to say such things, then he can keep using Twitter as it is now and there's no need to buy it). He's only interested in Twitter if it gives him a way to make pronouncements to millions of adoring fans. Buying it and shutting it down would defeat that purpose.

This could be useful, although I've found that just blocking people who are repeatedly annoying (and consistently not contributing anything useful) already has improved my Twitter experience immensely. Seriously, I think I've only blocked a handful of people, but the discussion threads are 95% improved.

This is actually pretty useful for me, as I am always mistaken tagged (and have had the hounds set upon me) for being confused with the Delhi Commission for Women, when my Twitter handle is @DCW. You'd be surprised at the heat I get for an organization half a world away. True story.

I spent more time blocking racist , sexist , homophobic morons than tweeting

I certainly don’t miss Twitter , tbh I’d prefer toothache to posting there again

I thought we already had this option? It's called don't respond to the tweets. Or delete account. Or turn off phone.
