Two Airport Extremes

I currently have an Airport Extreme 5th gen as my primary router and use a 1st gen Airport Express joined to wifi in bridge mode to allow an older device to connect via ethernet. Over wifi I'm getting 112mb down, but testing from the express ethernet port I get around 30mb down. I was considering upgrading my Extreme to 6th gen, and repurposing my old 5th gen Extreme as a bridge in the same I way I had been using the old Express (join wifi to use ethernet). First of all is that doable? I assume so. Second, do you suspect that this will help my speed?

For the AirPort Extreme in the latest OSX, you can only config it to "extend a wifi network", but not "join the wifi network" like the Airport express does.

My understanding is, as long as the "bridge" able to capture the wifi source, it can gives you network via the cable. So, in your case, they are virtually doing the same thing. (As long as the primary router is another AirPort Extreme). So, it's totally possible.
